Scene of the Hit
“We have to move the dead bodies before morning,” Aafro whispered to his colleagues. “How did this happen? This is mis-identity! Who ordered this hit?” Wande asked looking down at the two dead bodies on the ground. “Mujib ordered the hit. He wanted the bastard wasted for hitting on his girlfriend and causing her to break up with him. “This other guy is no bastard, he is a kush man, he belongs to Buccaneers; I know him very well. Mujib has started a war with the Buccaneers, I hope he is ready to fight…this other guy doesn’t look to me like the guy you were sent to kill,” Wande pointed out. Aafro put a finger on his lips and motioned for Wande to shut up.

“Guys, let us move these bodies,” Aafro said. The guys rallied and lifted the two dead bodies into a Toyota Hilux van. Aafro could smell big trouble coming his way. He and his guys sent by Mujib to kill Michael had mistakenly gunned down a Buccaneer while they were shooting at Michael. Aafro had to call his guy Wande, to come help him clean up the mess he made. So, Wande and his men had arrived that night dressed like policemen. The plan was to move the dead bodies to some place where they could hurriedly bury them and hope that by morning life would return to normal.

Aafro was startled when his phone rang. It was Mujib calling. At first he ignored the call. By the time Mujib called back, Aafro and his guys were already on their way to go bury the two dead bodies. He had to pick Mujib’s call the second time he called. “Hello senior man,” Aafro hailed Mujib. “I sent you to kill Michael and you decided to add jara to the hit. How on earth did you kill a Buccaneer? I hope you know you have started another round of war on this campus,” Mujib said, fuming. “I am sorry boss. I didn’t know he was Buccaneer, I thought he was Michael’s friend,” Aafro explained. “Have you confirmed the second body whether it is Michael’s body?” “Aah! Don’t worry boss, the bastard is dead.” “Are you sure about that Aafro? Someone called me about five minutes ago that he saw Michael in Oro about an hour ago. If you killed other people without gunning Michael down, I will deny I ordered the hit! I hope you heard me!” “Yes boss.”

Mujib’s Apartment
“I feel strongly that Aafro is lying to me. I want you guys to go down to Oro and find out if any of our guys there has seen Michael or any of his friends. If a war is going to come out of this mess, we had better do it right and make sure that bastard is dead for real,” Mujib said.

Three out of the seven guys with him stood up to leave. “Hold on, if you find out that Michael is truly not dead, when you guys are done with him, please make sure you deal with Aafro. Make his death to look like Buccaneers killed him,” Mujib instructed.

The Road to Oro
On their way to Oro, Ameen, the guy leading the new hit squad placed a call to Dekunle. “Senior man, Mujib thinks your cousin Michael might still be alive. He has sent us to Oro to finish him off if we find him. He also wants us to kill Aafro for messing up the earlier hit on your cousin.” “Thanks a lot Ameen. Just in case you find my cousin, tell him to run to Ijebu Igbo, but I fear you might not. I think he is the second guy they killed tonight. I don’t want you guys to hurt Aafro, I need him to nail Mujib. I will make Mujib realize he is only number four and that I am number two. If you run into any troubles do not hesitate to let me know. I am sending more hitmen down to Oro right away. Buccaneers are in a meeting right now, they have heard about their member Mujib killed, if they are going to start a war, I will let you know, but in case they chose to surprise us, please don’t hold back, make sure you fight to the death. We will deal with Mujib in the worst manner you can imagine.” “Okay, senior man,” replied Ameen.

Meeting of the Top Axe Men
Four men were in a meeting. They were the top four leaders of the Axe Men confraternity. They should have been five in number had Mujib been invited to the meeting. Dekunle had made sure Mujib did not get an invitation to the meeting, especially since he was the cause of the looming war. “I warned Mujib not to touch my cousin and yet he disobeyed me even after I gave in to his demands! I move that this confraternity strip Mujib of his position as number four and execute him immediately!” Dekunle thundered, visible angry. “Mujib is a top marksman! We can’t just waste him on account of his first major sin. I know how you feel Dekunle, your authority has been undermined and your cousin has probably been killed…however, I still think we need Mujib especially now,” the number one countered.

“Number one, I beg to disagree with you! This is not Mujib’s first sin! Has he not fought fellow confraternity members, took their girlfriends from them and even shot some over minor issues? In spite of what you think, Mujib knows what he is doing. He thinks he is too important to this confraternity. I became number two on account of the battles and blood I have spilled for this family, and yet my own cousin has been killed and the man who killed him is deemed more important than I am? Have I not served the founding fathers of this confraternity? How did I get to where I am today? Did I get here by doing what Mujib does? Number one, if Mujib is not brought here this minute and beaten to death then I am out!” Dekunle yelled, shaking from head to toes. That was his way, whenever he was angry, he shook that much.

The number one knew Dekunle was right; both of them had made it to the top obeying orders. He also knew that if he did nothing about Mujib, many more like him would rise and do the same thing Mujib did. “I think you are right number two. Mujib is out of control, it is time to deal with him. If the Buccaneers chose to fight us tonight or tomorrow, many will die on account of Mujib’s sins…” “Yes! That is exactly my point! Mujib needs to be taught a lesson!” Dekunle buttressed his point, shouting.

“Number three!” the number one called out. “Senior man sir!” “I want Mujib and all the boys working with him dragged down here naked. I want it done now. If any of them resists you, shoot them dead!” “Yes sir!” responded number three as he bolted off. “Number five!” “Yes sir!” “You are now number four! Mujib has henceforth been demoted. Your new rank will be announced to the entire family in the next general meeting. From this night on, Mujib shall be an ordinary member of the confraternity!” “Okay sir! By your words I stand this minute as number four!” “Number four!” “Yes sir!” “Take men and match down to the coven of the Buccaneers, tell them I want peace! Tell them that Axe Men will pay whatever they want for peace! We will not let any of our own die because of Mujib. Convince their leadership that their brother was killed in error. However, do not reveal to them who ordered the hit that led to his death. For old time sake, Mujib must be dealt with by the house, we cannot let others kill him.”

Oro
They stood in front of a certain rundown house demanding that all the guys inside the house step out one after the other. Ameen and the hitmen Dekunle sent down to Oro had taken over the small village that night. Somehow Ameen had sniffed out that a certain year one student everyone had thought dead was still miraculously alive. He was determined to find out if the guy in question was Michael.

While all the guys in the house cringed and lined up in front of Ameen and some of his men, a shout was heard from inside the house, “It is him! It is him! He is alive! Senior man the bastard is alive!!!” Ameen and some of his men darted into the house. In a tiny store were Michael and Lanre. The two of them looked bloodied, they must have taken bullets earlier in the day when Mujib’s men paid them a visit. Michael and Lanre knew it was over. They knelt on the ground and lifted their hands in surrender.

“Which of you is Michael?” Ameen asked “I am,” Michael said with tears flowing from his eyes. He was expecting bullets shatter his head the moment he said that. “Thank your God, bastard. Your angel in heaven has seen the face of God on your behalf. I was sent here to kill you, but your angel has asked me to keep you alive. Stand up and come with me!” Ameen demanded. Michael and Lanre stood to their feet and followed him, hardly believing one word of what Ameen had said. They feared that they were being led to the slaughter.
