Scene of the Bike Accident
Onlookers rushed to the gutter to help the hairdresser and the bike rider. On the side of the road, the taxi driver who had knocked them into the gutter stood beside his car with his hands on his head crying in shock. He could not bring himself to go look at the two persons he had knocked off the road. Besides the shock of knocking the bike rider and his passenger off the road, he had also seen the black evil bird which caused the accident. Something in the eyes of the bird had left him terrified. It was as though the bird had human eyes on its head.

“They are alive! They are alive! A male voice shouted from the side of the huge, deep, gutter. Some young men jumped into the gutter and helped the bike rider and the hairdresser to their feet. The hairdresser had a gash on her right shoulder and a torn lip. Besides those, she sustained no other injury. The bike rider on his part has a cut on his head and was bleeding much. He seemed worse off than the hairdresser. Also a few of the fingers on his left hand had bent backwards. Clearly he was in agonizing pain. As soon as they were helped out of the gutter, they moved them into the taxi which had knocked them off the road and took them to a nearby hospital.

Amongst the crowd which had gathered, people discussed the evil black bird which had caused the accident. “Na winch (witch) bird be that! I see am with my eyes. God please save us from this evil world,” a fat lady said at the top of her voice, snapping her fingers repeatedly. “Dear God, who wants to kill those children?! Imagine that the evil bird was not even afraid! It came out by broad daylight! The witch who turned into that bird must be desperate indeed!” shouted the lady selling roasted plantain and groundnut by the roadside. “It may not be a witch! Do you know what they have committed?! Young people do not have fear these days!” an elderly man tried explaining. A man next to him barked angrily, “You must be a wizard, sir! How could you say the evil bird we all saw with our eyes was not a witch?! Na old men like you dey support evil all over our land. In fact, you are the evil bird which attacked those young people!” The old man shook his head sadly and walked away. The crowd turned and look at him with much suspicion.

Around the scene of the accident, people clustered in small groups, analyzing, narrating and giving their opinions about the cause of the accident and the evil black bird.

The Nearby Hospital
“I must see the pastor! Let me go! Please let me go! I want to see pastor Yemi! They want to kill Samuel! That bird na Satan!” the hairdresser shouted. Around her hospital bed were three nurses, holding her down. “Madam, we cannot let you go! You are not fine yet! You just survived an accident!” one of the nurses shouted at her. Another nurse rushed into the room with a syringe loaded with Anesthesia. “Hold her down!” ordered the nurse with the syringe. “Wait! Please wait nurse!?” the hairdresser pleaded. “What is it madam? You need to be put to sleep, you are in shock,” explained the nurse with the syringe. “Where is my phone?” asked the hairdresser. “Here it is,” replied one of the nurses. “Please go through my contact and call pastor Yemi Silva. Tell him that Samuel is at Spring of Life Hospital, he is at the point of death. His problem is spiritual. Some evil people want to kill him,” the hairdresser pleaded.

The nurse holding her phone obliged her and began to go through her phone book, while the nurse with syringe gave the hairdresser a shot of the Anesthesia. In the theater, the bike rider was being attended to by a doctor and a few nurses. At the reception, the taxi driver and a few others who had accompanied him to the hospital, prayed fervently. They had seen the evil black bird and for that were very worried about the hairdresser and the bike rider.

On the Road Home
“What on earth would make you want to go back there Sandra?! Are you out of your mind?!” Patricia shouted at Sandra. “I don’t know why I am feeling that way! It is too strong Pat! Something is pulling back to that house,” Sandra explained, crying bitterly. “It must be the evil water which got into your mouth! Start praying and stop thinking about going back to that house!” Patricia said as she placed her right hand on Sandra’s head and began to pray, “Heavenly father, in the name of Jesus, I demand now that whatever force is pulling my sister back to that house be destroyed!” “Amen!” concurred Sandra. “You wicked power pulling me back to that house, I command you in Jesus name, desist in your maneuvers against me!” Sandra yelled and began to speak in tongues.

Five minutes into the prayer, Sandra bent over and vomited a black substance on the ground. While they watched, the black substance dried into the ground as if in a haste to escape from their sight. “I feel better Pat! Let’s go home!” Sandra announced and began to run, not having a clue where they were. Gladly Patricia followed behind her. Moments later her thoughts shifted to Samuel. The last time she stood by the door of his room, his bed was covered with a pile of fresh red sand. She quickened her pace and caught up with Sandra who was running with renewed energy after she vomited the black substance.

“Sandra! Slow down please!” Patricia called out “Why should I? I want to get home.” “Just stop running, I have something to tell you.” Sandra slowed her pace, reducing her movement to half a run. “What do you want to tell me?” “I am worried about Samuel. What do you think happened to him?” Sandra thought momentarily and replied, “Maybe he is dead or those who took away his memory may have taken him bound again… in fact, I don’t know… How can a human being turn to sand?” “Look Sandra, you are the prayer warrior, don’t you think we should find a spot here and pray for Samuel while we rest. The thought of him has filled my mind. I think Sammy needs our prayers.” “Okay, but I can’t wait to be home,” Sandra said, her eyes darting about for a spot where they could sit down and pray.

“How about those plantain trees?” Patricia asked, pointing and a cluster of plantain trees to her right. Without giving her consent if they should go to the plantain trees or not, Sandra quickened her pace toward their direction. Dragging her tired body along, Patricia followed her to the plantain trees. As soon as they sat down, the two of them began to pray for Samuel.

Spring of Life Hospital
Pastor Yemi Silva had received the hairdresser’s message and was already around with a prayer team. After the doctor on duty at the hospital had filled him in about Samuel’s strange health condition, he and his prayer team were led into the ward where Samuel was.

By this time Samuel’s skin had turned deep dark as though he was dead. He still could move around on the bed. According to the nurses who looked after him, his lips had been moving for hours as though he wanted to tell them something, but they could not hear his words. When Samuel saw Pastor Yemi, his eyes opened wider in excitement and his lips began to move rapidly, but no words came out. “It is okay Samuel; we are here now! There is no yoke the name of Jesus cannot break!” pastor Yemi announced. Turning to face his prayer team, pastor Yemi said, “Brethren, we cannot allow this young man to die here! Whatever this affliction is, let us attack it with the name of Jesus. We are not leaving here without Samuel!”

With that said, a round of hot, violent prayers began. Mid-way some nurses who could pray also joined them. As though he had not heard pastor Yemi, Samuel continued to move his lips, speaking unheard words. Mid-way through their prayers, Samuel let out a piercing scream and began to cough like the moment he tried to tell the hairdresser what was wrong with him. Pastor Yemi put his hand on his forehead and commanded the demon manipulating him to come out. He followed that with pouring anointing over Samuel, sprinkling the oil from his head to his toes. He had hardly finished doing that when that evil black bird flew into the hospital ward where they were, hit the floor and began to thrash about, while also clucking loudly. The sight of that manifestation, was their cue that victory was on the horizon.

Taking new positions, they all switched the prayer to a new gear. At the door to the ward, both medical and non-medical staff struggled to get a look at the bird which was flapping violently on the floor. “Jesus!!!” shouted Samuel as he sprang up from the bed, breathing heavily with tears flooding from his eyes. On the floor, the black bird stopped flapping its wings the moment Samuel sat up on the bed. Pastor Yemi stepped over to where the bird was and put his feet on it, crushing its ugly head. When Samuel got out of the bed, nurses and those present were shocked to see the bed covered with fresh red sand.

“Pastor! Pastor! I know the truth now! I know who my parents are! I remember everything the seer said!” Samuel yelled. Pastor Yemi looked at him curiously, hardly making out what he was talking about.
