“I think we should leave here. Verah here is my car key; my car is packed not so far from that accident scene.  You have to act like it was yours when you get there. We are going to see Strong Pastor, you have to come with us,” said Austin. “Why do you want me to drive your car? What is wrong with you?” asked a shaken Verah. “It is a long story we will tell you when we get to see Strong Pastor. Look outside; can you see the salon car squeezed under that trailer?” “Yes, I can.” “That is my car. And can you see the ash Hyundai packed near that tree?” “Yea.” “That is my car too and that’s the one I want you to drive. Someone has been messing with us since last night; we want to get to Strong Pastor to solve all this…”

“How could your car be in two different spots at the same time? Do you know what I think right now? Perhaps someone is dead and doesn’t even know it.” “Stop it Verah! Nobody is dead here!” shouted Melinda. The people in the mall turned and looked at them strangely. Austin shoved his car key into Verah’s hand, took her car key from her and left the mall with Melinda.

“Good day! Austin, Melinda and Verah, you are all welcome…” The Strong Pastor paused. His eyes were fixed on Melinda and Austin. The two of them held their breath; afraid that the pastor was going to confirm that Austin was dead. Verah on her part was waiting to hear the pastor confirm her suspicion. “What are you two still doing in your nightclothes at this time of the day?” They couldn’t answer him; they were too awe struck to speak a word. They wanted him to say it that Austin was dead. Verah took a step backward and mouthed to the pastor from behind Austin and Melinda, “I think Austin is dead.” The pastor read Verah’s lips and paused yet again. He searched his spirit to know if he could pick up any bit of information about Austin’s state. He waited, but the long wait was killing Melinda and Austin and he didn’t know it. Then he offered his opinion, “You all are fine as far as I am concerned; you can have your seats.” The three of them took a loud sigh of relief. Verah even moved over to Melinda and hugged her saying, “I thought Austin was dead. How could his car be in to places at the same time?”

“What are you talking about Verah?” asked the Strong Pastor. Austin and Melinda took their time and explained to the pastor their ordeal since last night. The pastor assured them that Austin was not by any stretch dead. However, he warned that evil was lurking around them. He explained that the experiences they had gone through the night was being orchestrated from the occult world. He said a few words of prayer for them and sent them home. Melinda, Austin and Verah were very happy that all that had happened to them were only a dream.

When Melinda and Austin got home, Melinda pleaded with Austin to move over to her apartment until she could recover from the trauma she had gone through. Austin was very glad to oblige her; he wouldn’t have been able to sleep in the night knowing Melinda was alone in her apartment. In a bid to terminate the circle of evil that was becoming a part of their lives, Melinda pleaded with Austin to put on hold the plan to dig up Michael’s grave. Grudgingly Austin accepted to do so. The two of them decided to banish talk about Michael from all their conversations; they agreed also not to even mention the names of Melinda’s dead friends while they were together. This worked for them; after some time, their edgy and nervous reactions to sounds stopped. Melinda offered to take Austin out the first night she had no nightmare. She woke up that morning with a sprint in her stride. Her old self was beginning to blossom again.

“Baby I had a dream last night,” she announced to Austin excitedly. “And this time it wasn’t about the dead.” “What was it about?” “It was about our wedding; it took place in New York City at the Leonard’s Palazzo.”  “Leonard’s Palazzo! To rent it would cost half a state’s budget in Nigeria!” Melinda continued ignoring him, “…after our wedding we had a handsome baby boy who took after my pretty looks. You should have seen him; he made your face lit up like the sun. You know what, I am taking you out this evening. Pick your spot,” she announced to Austin. “My ideal spot would be ehm…Yes! Vista restaurant at Le Méridien Ibom Hotel & Golf Resort.” “That means we will have to leave Lagos. And besides it is way above my budget,” said Melinda with a mock frown on her face. “I will fill in any costs left by your lean budget. Don’t worry let’s do it. Don’t you think we are beginning to forget how to love each other like old times?” “So we should do it, right?” “Baby, pack your bags and get ready, by this evening we will be in Uyo. I will call Gbenga for our flight arrangements.”

By 8:00 pm, Austin and Melinda were at Uyo airport; Austin had thrown in a few surprises into their kneejerk decision to dine at an upscale restaurant by making reservations for both a room at the hotel and a table at the restaurant before leaving Lagos. What followed when they arrived at the airport took Melinda’s breath away. They were met at the airport by two lovely ladies who collected their bags and took them to a hotel chauffeur driven car, in the back of the car were fruit and drinks. On arrival at the hotel they were welcomed by a senior staff of the hotel and several other members of staff, and were given a glass of champagne.

The carpet from the car was covered in lovely rose petals as they entered the hotel where upon their guest 'check-in' was already completed. The arrival welcome was beyond anything Melinda could have dreamt of, she and Austin were treated like royalty. They were then showed to out 'Suite' by a male concierge and on entering their room, the floor and bed were covered again in lovely rose petals. In the lounge area there was a heart shaped cake and a bottle of champagne with a lovely welcome note from the GM and Staff, at this point, Melinda shed a few tears of joy.

After they had settled in, the both of them dressed up for a diner at the Vista restaurant. Melinda knew the awesome way they were welcomed from the airport to the hotel had something to do with Austin. She intended to make known her opinions much later that night. Melinda garbed herself in a flocked tank bodice jersey dinner gown with beaded ash style. Her footwear and earrings accessorized her wear exquisitely. Her appearance left Austin staring at her longingly; she knew it and allowed him to take in as much of her beauty as he could. Austin wore a black super slim fit dinner suit, a Jasper Conran white tailored fit, subtle stripe, long sleeve shirt and a black damask fleur bow tie. The two of them looked like they were on their honeymoon; Austin took her hand and led her out of the room.

When they got to the restaurant, a waiter ushered them to their table. Melinda was awed by the detailed and careful treatment shown to her and her man. She wanted to say something to appreciate Austin’s thoughtfulness, but couldn’t find the right words. She was the one who offered to take him out, but he had smartly taken initiative from her and planned the most romantic diner she had been out on so far. Melinda was glancing through the menu when she heard a familiar voice. She raised her head, her eyes darting around the restaurant; Austin quickly took notice of the change in her mood, “What is it baby?” “Did you hear that voice?” “Which voice?” Austin couldn’t pick out any unusual voice from among the people in the restaurant; he didn’t want their evening spoilt, but from the look on Melinda’s face, he knew their romantic evening was over.
