“Wake up Melinda! Melinda! Wake up! Wake up!” Shouted Austin as he shook Melinda vigorously. Melinda opened her eyes and was very glad Austin had arrived in time to wake her from what must have been the worst nightmare of her life. Melinda held Austin firmly, sobbing heartily; for a moment she thought she was going to die in that grave. Her sobbing lasted for quite a while; Austin waited patiently for her to recover and narrate her nightmare and to also have her hear his own hairsplitting horror encounter.

“Tell me baby what happened?” asked Austin as he waited to hear what Melinda would tell him. “I can’t go back to that horror. I want to forget it. I don’t want to remember it. I am still afraid,” said Melinda tearfully. “It is okay if you don’t want to talk about it; but I think we should. I also had a nightmare last night. I have been trying to piece it together, but it is too hard to do. Baby I know you won’t believe this, but it is true, I woke up this morning in my car…”

“In your car? How?” “It is hard to explain. I was chatting with you when you asked me to excuse you for a moment so you could go check out a sound you heard in your kitchen…” “Yes I remember that part, I asked you to wait so I could go check a sound I heard coming from the kitchen. So what happened?” “Well, Melinda, I think all that was a dream. You never said those things in reality. Both of us were asleep and having the same dream until you went into your kitchen and we got separated into different dreams. I have checked my phone; you didn’t type those words when we were chatting…” “No, I did Austin!” “No, you didn’t baby. Check your phone. As a matter of fact, we stopped chatting about 11:10 pm; whatever happened afterwards was a dream. Baby, someone got into our minds last night.”

Melinda couldn’t believe what Austin was saying, so he got off her bed to search for her phone, but she didn’t have to; the phone was in the very place she had left it when she went into the kitchen last night to see what was making noise in her kitchen. That was for her a proof that Austin was wrong about his claims. She went through her WhatsApp chat with Austin and could not believe her eyes. Her last typed message was sent to Austin by 11:10 pm.

Struggling to wrap her head around what actually happened the previous night, she asked, “Was I dreaming when I heard a sound and went into my kitchen?” “Yes! You were. And I was also dreaming when I drove off around 1:35 am to your house…” “You drove to my house?” “I couldn’t bear the wait any longer, I felt you were in danger so I set out to come and rescue you. But on my way here I ran into something, something evil and from the underworld. I was running from it when my car crashed into a trailer and I died…” “You died? Oh my God! Then all these are no dreams…” “What are you saying?” “Austin I saw you amongst the dead last night. You told me to fight and not let him get to me. I think you were referring to Michael. I saw you when the dead circled the grave I fell into. Austin I get it now…”

“You get what?” “You are dead and have risen from the dead like Angelique. When I saw you amongst the dead you were wearing your pajamas, the very one you are wearing now!” “Am I wearing my pajamas now?” Austin asked looking dazed.

“Yes! That is what you are wearing right now!” Austin looked himself over as if he was becoming aware of himself for the first time that morning. “Oh my God! Austin you are dead! You are dead! AAAH!” “Stop it Melinda! I am not dead! I can’t be! It was all a dream sent by Michael to stop us from digging up his grave!” Austin put his arms around Melinda and tried as much as he could to reassure her that he was not dead. However, Melinda wasn’t sure her boyfriend was still alive. “If you are not dead, tell me, ‘how did you get into your car?’ If it was all a dream, then explain to me how you woke up this morning in your car? Why are you still dressed in the very clothes you died in?”

Austin stood up from the bed and looked himself over once again, looking very puzzled. He thought very hard about the things Melinda just said, and then said to her in a low tone, “No baby, this is not my resurrection, I am not dead, at least not yet. I must have sleep-walked into my car and dozed off inside it thinking I was driving it without knowing I was only dreaming.”

“I have known you for three years, not once have I seen you sleep walk or heard you say you did. Why then did it just start?” Austin was very analytical; he was the type who peeled matters layer after layer until he would get to answers most people wouldn’t find. He left the bed and installed himself in one corner of Melinda’s room and began to replay the events of the night frame by frame on his mind. He found a bit of detail he had missed, which immediately left the look of shock on his face. “What is it? What have you remembered?” asked Melinda.

Austin was too shocked to say a word. His silence made Melinda to yell, “What did you just remember?!” With a floundering voice, Austin recalled, “I think I saw the wreckage of a car like mine under a trailer on my way here.” “Are you serious? So you are truly dead?” “Let’s go check it out. It was at the very spot I had an accident and died last night.” Austin took his car key and began to run out of Melinda’s room. Melinda followed on his heels still garbed in her nighties. Austin drove as fast as he could to get to the location of the accident. He parked his car somewhere nearby and the both of them walked to the accident scene. When they saw the car buried under the trailer, Melinda and Austin went numb. It was exactly Austin’s car. Hot tears began to flow out of Melinda’s eyes; she put her hands across her chest as if to stop it from exploding. Austin put his hands around Melinda and led her away from the accident scene.
