Nigeria's leading fictional story blog - miscarriage of pregnancies, kissed her passionately, in the police vehicle, charged with attempted murder, The black metallic venza, the marriage would fall apart, marriage, cornerstone of their marriage.

“If it’s about the child, send the bill to my secretary, she will credit your account. Just get out of my home!” Nosa yelled. “Shhhhh, baby please don’t talk like that, I know you want me,” Mercy replied as she moved closer to him. Nosa pushed her violently and dragged her to the door as she screamed and begged him to stop. As Nosa let go of her to open the door, she jumped to feet and brought out a knife from underneath her dress, “I didn’t think I needed it,” she said bitterly as she watched Nosa retreat into a corner. With each step she made towards Nosa, he moved until he backed up against the wall. “Now, you will kiss me and make love to me,” Mercy said, smiling as she moved closer to him. “No he won’t! You whore!” Itohan shouted in anger as she emerged from her room.  Mercy turned abruptly and looked at her with so much disdain., “She wasn’t supposed to be pregnant ever! You know,” Mercy supplied. She narrated how she made sure of that by ensuring that Nosa was constantly sleeping with her; she further explained that so long Nosa slept with her, Itohan was to experience miscarriage of pregnancies.

“You don’t die so easily Itohan,” she said as she started walking towards her with the knife. “The boys I sent to steal your car didn’t deliver as promised. I have come to finish what they started,” she continued. “What did I ever do to you? Why ruin a happy home when you can get yours?” Itohan asked angrily. “If I can’t have Nosa, you can’t have him! Can’t you see that I love him” Mercy cried. “No, all I see is a crazy woman,” Itohan replied angrily.

As Mercy was closing in on Itohan, Nosa swiftly lunged forward and knocked her out with a huge ceramic flower vase. Nosa quickly called the police and tied Mercy to a chair so she won’t escape. He embraced Itohan with so much intensity that she wondered what came over him. “I would have lost you just like that Imose,” Nosa sobbed as he kissed her passionately. Itohan reciprocated the gesture until the arrival of the police interrupted their romance. Mercy was wheeled away in the police vehicle after the couple were questioned.

Later that night, as the couple slept, Itohan felt strange movements in her body; she woke up and felt wet underneath her. She nudged her husband and whispered in between tears, “I need to get to the hospital.” Nosa drove madly to the hospital and waited at the reception for what seemed like an eternity.

Itohan held the baby in her arms and couldn’t contain the tears of joy that flowed. Nosa rushed into the room and the sight of mother and child warmed his heart, in his eyes, they were picture perfect. Itohan handed the baby to him while he kept gushing about how beautiful the baby was. It would have been the happiest day of Itohan’s life except that she remembered that the child would be a constant reminder of her unfaithfulness to her husband.

As if guessing her thought, Nosa assured her that he didn’t care if the child was his or not and that he was all over in love with her. He apologised for his poor behaviour and how his actions pushed her to seek comfort in the arms of another man. Although he had a hard time forgiving his wife at first, he realized that she might have felt the same way when she learnt he was cheating on her. Nosa wanted to end that phase of their lives quickly so that they could start afresh.

She was discharged few days later from the hospital and the child was named Gift. Nosa loved the child as his own and one couldn’t even tell if the child was his or not, because both of them bore strange resemblance.

The couple later heard Mercy confessed to being the mastermind behind Itohan’s attack. She added that the child she had wasn’t for Nosa as she was seeing other men when she realized she was pregnant. Nosa was her most suitable target because he confided in her about his wife’s constant miscarriages. She was later charged with attempted murder which she pleaded guilty to. The black metallic venza was later retrieved and given back to Itohan, while Mercy was sentenced to 15 years in jail. Her child was taken in by a close relative of hers until she served her term.

Itohan knew she had unfinished business to deal with and was determined to make them right. Her first issue was Mimi; she realized she had opened up her marital doors to third parties which came in form of advice from Mimi. She decided to pay Mimi a visit, although they stopped talking to each other after her husband’s revelation. Mimi was shocked to see Itohan, they exchanged pleasantries while the air around them was stiff with tension.

Itohan wasn’t one to beat around the bush, so she went straight to the point, “Why did you do it Mimi, I trusted you with my secrets,” Itohan started. “Oh please Itohan, why won’t I?” Mimi shot back. Mimi revealed that she wasn’t very happy when she saw the couple mending their fences, having no man by her side made her envious of Itohan. “All this while, you pretended to be happy for me when what you wanted was for me to be like you, a sad single mother,” Itohan said bitterly. After half an hour of endless arguments between the two; it turned out Mimi was never happy that her friend was happily married at the beginning. Just like Mercy, she felt she deserved to be happy and if she couldn’t, then nobody else deserved to be. That was the reason she went about offering wrong counsel to Itohan, secretly praying the marriage would fall apart like her own did in the past.

Mimi stood up and walked to the front door and ordered Itohan out of her home. Itohan met her at the door and sternly warned her to stay away from her and her family. Mimi who appeared to have everything to together bust in tears the moment Itohan drove off. She was sad because she couldn’t keep any man loyal to her nor could she stop the endless bouts of jealousy she felt when she saw happy couples.

Itohan knew she had to face Sammy just in case Mimi had gone ahead of her to tell him about the child. She expected the worst from her confrontation with Sammy and braced herself for the outcome. She glanced around nervously as she knocked at Sammy’s front door; a lady in her late 20’s dressed in shorts and a camisole answered the door. Itohan hid her surprise and asked politely, “Where’s Sammy?” “Who wants to know?” the girl asked with an air of arrogance.  “Anyway, I don’t know who you are talking about. I moved in here a couple of months ago,” the girl said with impatience written all over her face. Itohan was shocked and relieved at the same time, she wanted to get over this stage of her life and start afresh with her family. “Thank you,” Itohan said as she turned to leave. “Just so you know, I heard the last tenant moved abroad,” the girl said shutting the door. An air of relief swept through Itohan’s heart as she made her way to her car. She knew she had no way of contacting Sammy even if she wanted to, because he was far away in another country. She returned home with a renewed mind, wanting to put the past behind them as quickly as possible. Itohan was grateful she had a second chance to save her marriage.

Later that day, Nosa told Itohan that Mimi met him at the office offering her body to him shamelessly. When he refused, she spilled his wife’s secret before walking out with the look of satisfaction on her face. They both realized that pride played a major role in spoiling the beautiful marriage they had; they renewed their vows behind closed doors and promised each other never to let anyone come in between them again. After attending several counselling sessions, the couple learnt to address issues as they come and forgiveness became the cornerstone of their marriage.

Their marriage was later blessed with three children while Mimi moved away to another town because of shame. She knew she played a major role in stretching the conflict between Itohan and her husband. She wanted to seek for a new beginning in a new place, hoping to have a man that would commit to her.
