Kilwasi, KRF hidden Camp, 03:10 pm
“We have our men watching movements in Teneme in barracks. There is no sign of Shirley yet,” said Rev. Kato “We have to infiltrate the camp, that is the only way to know what is going on there. I still can’t figure out what General Masamba needs my wife for,” Solomon said, wondering aloud. “At this moment everything is possible. This is war, you have to prepare yourself for the worst,” the reverend said. Solomon’s phone vibrated and he picked it. “Hello, who is this?” he asked. “Solomon, it is Chiumbo. Shirley has been spotted in front of your house. You have to come now!” “Shirley, in front of my house? How did she get there?” “We don’t know. You have to be careful as you go back. The streets are crawling with soldiers. They are searching for KRF members from street to street and house to house.” “Thank you Chiumbo, you and your guys should hang around and keep an eye on her, I am coming now,” Solomon said. “What did Chiumbo say about Shirley?” Rev. Kato asked “She has been seen in front of my house. I have to go get her away from danger.” “Go. Take some men with you. However, you must be careful. We do not know what Masamba is up to with her.” “I will.” Solomon took three KRF fighters and left.

The Streets of Kilwasi, 03 35 pm
There were Congo soldiers everywhere, rounding up men, women and children. Solomon was horrified to see the number of dead people on the street. He was so horrified by what he saw that he wished they had not gone to war. He and the men with him snapped the dead bodies on the street. The most shocking one was the body of a young woman who was raped and afterward beheaded. Solomon could tell she was raped because her naked body was covered with sperm. A few yards away, her head lay gaping skyward. From the spatter of fresh blood on the ground, Solomon and his men knew the crime had been committed not long ago. “I think I know who she is,” said one of KRF fighter with Solomon. “You do?” asked Solomon. “Yes, she is sister to our cook. I hope I am right,” replied the KRF fighter.

“How did they find our fighter?” asked Solomon. “I don’t know. We have to tell the reverend about this.” “If you are right, then someone amongst us is selling us out. It is too early for Congo soldiers to be picking out our fighters or their family members to kill them in this manner! Call the reverend and send him these photos,” Solomon instructed. They were forced to go into hiding with the sound of explosion some distance away. It didn’t take long before a group of young men ran toward the direction of Solomon and his men. The young men were new KRF recruits. Congo soldiers were chasing after them shooting sporadically. “Look! Someone has betrayed us! They are killing our members. Nobody knows these guys are KRF! How did they find out?” Solomon asked in utter shock. Solomon being the type who never shrunk from a battle opened fire on the surging Congo soldiers, “KAKAKAKAKAKA!!!” Congo soldiers were not expecting resistance and so were surprised by the attack. Before they could retreat, the other three fighters with Solomon opened fire on them from three different angles. Suddenly they were pinned in the middle of the street. Some of them lay down on the ground and radioed for help.

From the third floor of a three storey building nearby, a woman opened her window and threw an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) at the Congo soldiers on the street. The explosion blew some of them sky high. The others were severely injured. Solomon could hear them calling for backup. As if on cue, several windows on the street swung open and IEDs flew out from them and rained down on the street. In a blink of an eye, the street was littered with dead Congo soldiers. Solomon was left speechless by the bravery of Kilwasi men and women. They had had enough of being silently killed and had made up their mind to fight back.

On the backdrop of the small victory Solomon and the Kilwasi citizens on that street had recorded, people ran into the street celebrating. Soon AK 47 assault rifles were everywhere. IEDs and hand grenades were distributed to both men and women. They knew more Congo soldiers were coming and they were ready to die fighting. “For Kilwasi!!!” screamed a boy, raising his gun high. He was not more than fifteen years. He was willing to die fighting. Amid the excitement, Solomon knew something was wrong. There was a mole amongst them who had begun to feed the Congo army some information about KRF. He asked his two colleagues to move the men and women on the ground into fighting positions and moved away to place call to Chiumbo. “Chiumbo are you still in front of my house?” “Yes, but Congo soldiers are closing in on us.” “Where is my wife?” “She is inside the house.” “Do you know if she is alone in the house?” “I don’t know Solomon. We have to leave here now!” “Please don’t leave my wife there alone. They will kill her! Take her with you. I can’t get to you now. Fighting has broken out on Arguly Street. Call our base and request for fighters to be sent to Arguly street. Tell our Commodores to keep their eyes in the sky. I am going to war Chiumbo,” “Die fighting brother.” “For Kilwasi.” “For Kilwasi Solomon.”

The sound of marching Congo soldiers and tanks could be heard heading toward Arguly street. Solomon ran for cover. Beside all the windows on that street, KRF and Kilwasi diehards crouched with heavy assault guns waiting for Congo Soldiers to walk into their ambush.

Kilwasi, Solomon’s house, 03:45 pm
Shirley had been ransacking the house since she got back and was shocked by the amount of information she found about KRF hidden in the basement of their house. Though Solomon had told her he was KRF before their wedding, she did not know how deep he was in the organization. The more she dug into the information she found in the house, the more she feared that perhaps General Masamba was right about Solomon. On the floor she sat and cried bitterly, feeling bad that Solomon did not tell her the whole truth about him. Since she was not sure about what to believe, she took all the information she found in the house about KRF and stashed them in a bag. If Masamba was wrong about Solomon, she knew it would be dangerous to let those bits of information fall into his hands. However, to test both sides engaged in the war and to prove whether General Masamba was right about Solomon or not, she sent some of the information she found to him. That was a terrible mistake by Shirley which she would live to regret. The moment General Masamba got the information Shirley sent to him, he passed it to his men at Teneme Barracks and they quickly moved into the streets killing, maiming and raping KRF members and those related to them. There was no way for Shirley to know the gravity of what she had done since she was yet to come in contact with any KRF fighter or her husband. To lure Solomon to the house using Shirley, Masamba had asked his soldiers to watch her closely to know when Solomon comes home. Fortunately for Solomon, the battle at Arguly had saved his life for the mean time.

Chuimbo knew something was wrong with the manner Shirley was released after her abduction. He and his men had been watching Solomon’s house since they spotted her in front of it. Strangely none of the soldiers who passed through that street had bothered to enter the house even though they knew it belonged to a wanted man like Solomon. Chiumbo was sure that Shirley may have been set free as a bait to destroy Solomon. He was certain that there were soldiers hidden somewhere watching the house. He had to device means to extract Shirley from the house. To distract whoever was watching Shirley to know when Solomon would return, Chiumbo and his colleagues detonated several explosives on the street. That strategy worked just fine. Amid the explosions, some KRF members intercepted unknown faces in the primary school on the street hurrying to get away. Unfortunately for them, they provided no satisfactory answers as to who they were or what they were doing within the school premises. They were arrested and searched. The search revealed that they were Congo soldiers. In spite of the torture they were subjected to, they refused to reveal their mission on the street.

While the soldiers were being quizzed, Chiumbo and his men entered Solomon’s house and extracted Shirley. She was moved quickly to a temporary KRF camp where she would meet with Solomon and Rev. Kato. The Congo Soldiers found in the primary school premises were quickly killed by KRF fighters except for two whom they took alive for questioning. Unfortunately for KRF, their new camp was bombed by Congo Airforce four hours after Shirley was taken from her house. The location of the new camp was revealed to the Congo army by Shirley. To Shirley the camp was a useless barren, but painfully, Solomon and some KFR fighters were there preparing to storm Teneme barracks. Their resounding victory against Congo military forces at Arguly Street had spurred them on to spring a surprise attack on Teneme barracks. By 8:00 that evening, Solomon and all the KRF fighters in the new camp were declared dead, after several searches to find their bodies amid the debris in the camp produced nothing.

“Shirley there is a chance that Solomon may have died in the bomb attack on our new camp,” said Rev. Kato. Two KRF fighters were standing beside her to restrain her from doing anything stupid upon hearing the sad news. Shirley felt her head swoon and she quickly sat on the floor. Tears circled her eyes and her heart began to pound. Her mistake had cost her Solomon whom she swore to protect with her life. “We don’t know how they got knowledge of the camp. We are certain that there is a mole in our midst. Someone with access to some classified information amongst us is betraying us to Congo Forces. Sadly, we don’t know who,” Rev. Kato said dejectedly. Shirley knew she was the one but could not bring herself to tell Rev. Kato.

“When we saw what they did to our people in the city, our fighters and the people of Kilwasi rallied to inflict a heavy defeat on them at Arguly street. Right now, all the people who fought in that battle are dead. We have lost three hundred fighters today and it is all because of the turncoat in our midst. Look at what they are doing to our people!!” Chiumbo yelled raising the cannon camera in his hand. “Our girls are being raped and beheaded! Our young men are being killed for fun, and sadly we have a mole here who thinks we are fighting for the wrong cause! God please reveal the mole to us or we perish!” Chiumbo shouted crying bitterly. The sight he had met in their new camp had horrified him. The Congo Airforce had pounded the camp with bomb. Shirley managed to stand to her feet and went to have a look at the images on the camera in Chiumbo’s possession. The moment she saw those pictures she threw up. She could not believe the level of man’s inhumanity unleashed by Congo soldiers on Kilwasi people. Her stomach churned so much she felt she would die. She handed the camera back to Chuimbo and began to cry. In that moment, she knew General Masamba had fooled her. She could not tell anyone what she had done, but by the next day, many more would die, if she would not tell them how much information she had given to General Masamba.
