Nigeria's leading story blog. late governor’s brother, the multi-millionaire, maintenance elevator to the 5th floor, gun wielding security men, millions of dollars

“I have to get in. You stay in the car and watch the driver,” Jariye suggested. Madubene sat in the car while he walked casually into the hotel. He walked to the lobby and chatted up the beautiful receptionist seated behind the desk. “I like your dress; very classy and colorful,” he praising her lavishly. “Thank you,” she replied blushing. “What can I do for you?” She was beaming with smiles. “I have stayed here before on the fifth floor. I like the view from there. Do you have anything on the fifth floor tonight?” He asked her. He had seen the elevator take Juliet to the fifth floor. “Let me see.” She clicked on the mouse and searched around. “I am afraid the entire fifth floor is filled tonight.” “Really? Do you have a conference or something going on?” “Oh no!! There is a very important person who has paid for the entire floor.” “Wow!! He must be one of ‘them’ big shots.” Jariye leaned forward over the counter and lowered his voice. “I hope to be rich like them someday. Anyway, who could be rich enough to pay for the entire floor?” She too lowered her voice. She looked over her shoulder first before talking. “It is the late governor’s brother, Peter Iningo, the multi-millionaire.”

“Oh! That makes sense. I hear the guy is really loaded,” Jariye said casually. “Very loaded,” she replied. “Can you find me something on the fourth floor then? When I become as rich as Peter Iningo, then I will graduate to the fifth floor,” he said jokingly. “She smiled and began to search for a room for him. “There is a bathroom on this floor right?” “Yes, over there,” the beautiful unsuspecting receptionist answered, pointing him in the direction of the bathroom. “I will be right back.” He walked towards the toilet and quickly changed direction towards the kitchen.

As though he had been to the hotel several times before, he made his way through the back and rode the maintenance elevator to the 5th floor. It was the only way to access the 5th floor without being accosted by Peter Iningo’s numerous security operatives. The elevator led to a backroom for conveying supplies to each floor. Jariye pressed his ear against the door for about a minute. He heard nothing. Looking around, he found blue overall coats lying in bins. Instinctively, he donned one of them quickly. A look in the mirror beamed an image of a maintenance man back to him. There were clipboards and tools lying around too. He picked up a clipboard and tossed a spanner and pliers in his breast pocket. He made sure to leave them sticking out conspicuously. Then, he pushed the door open and walked into the hallway. The hallway was teeming with angry looking, gun wielding security men. Jariye smiled casually and proceeded to the North end of the hallway.

Inside Peter Iningo’s suite, he sat majestically on the couch opposite Juliet. She was racking through her brain for solutions to her dilemma. “Why are you doing this, Peter?” “I am simply acting on a piece of information that flew into my laps.” “This is vindictive. How can you be so callous? I am your late brother’s wife. Why would you want to sleep with me?” “You make it sound like I am asking you to do something you have never done before. You have been sleeping with Abugu for as long as anyone can remember…under the noses of my trusting brother, who never looked hard enough to find out that his best friend was sleeping with his wife. By the way, I have just received another tape that shows you and Abugu discussing the millions of dollars you have siphoned from the State coughers into hidden offshore accounts. I guess I have every right to take a cut of the loot, or don’t I?” He smiled maliciously. “You see, I have not brought you here to argue or negotiate with you. You gave a brilliant speech yesterday. I am sure you would not want the world to know about the millions of dollars our financial expert and watchdog has sent abroad…illegally.

“Just in case you are planning anything, I need you to know that I have copies of the tapes with multiple agents who have been instructed to release them strategically all over the world. So, don’t even think about it.” Juliet’s heart was beating frenetically with rage. She wished she could put a bullet through Peter’s brains. “I am ready when you are,” she said, removing her clothes. “I don’t like it rushed. I am in charge here. I will rip off your clothes when I am ready. Come sit beside me. I want to smell that fragrance of yours. Do you still wear the same perfume you did back in university?” “Yes,” Juliet answered, trying hard to go along with him. She tucked into the couch beside him. The fragrance of her perfume wafted past his nostril as she sat close beside him. He closed his eyes as he placed his arms around her waist. She leaned into his chest gently. “I have missed this…I have missed you all these years,” he muttered with his eyes still shot. “So, don’t forget that I want $US10,000,000 wired into my offshore accounts by tomorrow. I have learned never to trust you, Juliet.” “As soon as I have your offshore bank account, I will have the money wired to you by tomorrow,” she answered calmly. “Good. That is very good, Juliet.” Then he began to rip off her clothes like a rabid dog. A part of her wanted to stick her fingers in his eyes and gorge them out, but she knew it would mean the end of her life. The entire floor was heavily guarded. There was no way she could get out unscathed.

“Where are you going?” A fierce looking security man asked Jariye. “I am doing some maintenance work on the phone lines,” he replied with a carefully manicured smile. “I am afraid this place is out of bounds tonight. Come back tomorrow,” the security man said. “My manager wants me to finish the job tonight. It is important. Some of the guests at the conference have complained about their international calls, so I need to make sure the lines are fixed tonight.” “I will throw you off this floor if you don’t leave now. My boss has paid for privacy and it is my job to make sure he gets it. When we made the reservation, your hotel assured us that he would have the entire floor to himself. I don’t care who is at conference and the countries they are calling. This floor is out of bounds to all tonight, unless you have clearance from my boss to be here. As far as I am concerned, you have no business here.”

Jariye stared hard at him. He could not think of a ploy to get to the suite at the end of the hallway. He reluctantly left, taking the elevator back to ground floor. As soon as he got off the elevator, he walked to the bathroom and rid himself of the overall coats. “What took you so long?” Madubene yelled at him when he rejoined him in the car. “I had to get to the 5th floor somehow. Peter Iningo is there. He has rented the entire 5th floor to himself…with the inclusion of his numerous security guards. That floor is swarmed with gun wielding men who look like they have been fighting in a bloody war. He is with Juliet. I was not able to get any closer to Peter’s suite.” Madubene looked up at the 5th floor. “This has got to be serious. I wonder what is going on,” he replied. “Why don’t we attack Juliet’s driver with a view to extracting information from him.
