Donning face masks Kate and her team stealthily mixed up with the crowd which ran out of the lab building as a result of the chaos which had broken out inside; in every part of the lab gadgets failed to function well, leaving a swarm of aliens milling about dangerously. Kate had set for her team a 20 minutes mark to plant bombs in the lab and to look for anyone they might help. Anyone amongst them who would remain back in the lab after twenty minutes would go down with it. Though Martin Douglas didn’t feel fine enough to go into the lab with the others, he insisted on going, he was still holding out that somehow his wife and daughter might still be alive. Knowing what it meant to lose one’s family members, Dr. Brown persuaded Kate and Eve to let him go into the lab. To make sure Martin returned in time to leave with them, Kate asked Eve and Dr. Brown to go with him. Dr. Brown knew where to look for Martin’s family having worked in a lab similar to the one La Paz. As they meandered through the lab they left bomb in every conceivable place they could. Kate had to go into the lab without any member of her team with her because she had to leave two of the men from Stan Livermore to watch over Shepherd. Having gained access into the lab, Shepherd loved the damage he did from his laptop; he changed some codes which supported some parts of the computer system in the lab, and cut off air supply to many of the aliens in the lab. He swung wide open, some of the doors which locked in the men and women who were used for various experiments and to birth those alien breeds.

Eve, Dr. Brown and Martin were stopped dead in their tracks as they raced to reach the place where Dr. Brown believed Martin’s wife and daughter were being held. A monster woman with a disfigured face, standing at six feet five tall, was smacking heads wide open with a metallic weapon in her hand. The security men in the lab were fighting hard to put her down. After watching the scene for a while, Eve figured out that the monster woman was trying to get to a cell nearby. It seemed there was someone or something in there she wanted to reach out to. As the woman fought, dropping men and women dead with the weapon in her hand, her mouth would yank open as if of their own accord, and she would vomit a greenish substance. Martin Douglas drew closer to Eve and whispered, “I think that monster is my wife Paula.” In spite of how low his voice was and the noise in the lab, the woman turned swiftly in their direction and steered coldly at Martin Douglas. Her eyes burned with rage and a red glow. Whatever was done to the woman had destroyed the human soul in her, it seemed. A look at her fingers revealed they had somehow grown longer than normal and so were her toes. Her muscles were firm and toned and she seemed unnaturally athletic.

The mention of the name ‘Paula’ had distracted her, giving the security men who tried to put her down fractions of seconds to attack her. Clearly they were on orders not to kill her. While the monster-like woman looked at Martin Douglas and his team, the men rushed toward her to attack her with the Taser devices in their hands. Martin convinced that the monster woman was Paula his wife, instinctively raised his gun and fired at the men who were about to attack her, mowing them down with bullets. Eve who still had a hard time believing that the monster woman was human in the first place, asked Martin, “Are you sure she is Paula?” Before Martin could answer Eve, the monster woman groaned with a beastly voice, “P-A-U-L-A!!!” and pointed at the cell in front of her and groaned, “D-A-U-G-T-H-E-R!!” That was the proof they needed. The monster woman was Paula, Martin Douglas’ wife, she was fighting to break out her daughter. Strangely there was still some human nature left in her. Eve, as tough as she was, covered her face and began to cry. Dr. Brown yelled at Martin, “Go close to her and see if she will recognize you! If she does we are leaving with her!” Martin took a few steps toward her, pointed at himself and said, “Paula, I am Martin Douglas!” The monster woman groaned, “Martin Douglas! Husband!!!” She pointed at herself and groaned once more, “Wife! Martin Douglas!!!” Martin Douglas understood what she was trying to say and the shock of it shook him and he slumped to the ground.

Dr. Brown sprang to work to revive him; they had less than eight minutes to leave the lab or get blown up with it. Eve at that point was useless to both Dr. Brown and Martin Douglas. She could not figure out how a human being could get to be disfigured that much. To get Eve to help them, Dr. Brown gave her a slap to the face and shouted at her, “Go break out Paula’s daughter! I will wake Martin! We are not leaving this place without Paula and her daughter!” “But we can’t do anything for them! They are not humans anymore!” replied Eve. Dr. Brown stood to her feet, pointing her gun at Eve and yelled with a nerve racking rage in her eyes, “Help Paula’s daughter or I drop you dead now!” Eve had never seen Dr. Brown like that before. It seemed something about Paula and her daughter reminded her something she had told no one. Just when Eve thought she had seen the worst, the monster woman staggered toward Martin who lay helplessly on the floor, squatting beside him, stroked his hair and groaned again, “Husband!!” That sight was like a shot in the arm for Eve. It brought back the kick ass girl in her.

Pointing her gun on the lock on the cell door, she pumped bullets into it. She tried to yank the heavy cell door open, and suddenly standing behind her was the monster woman. With one hand she pulled at the heavy door, yanked it open and went in. In about a minute she emerged with a lady who looked much like her. Eve was so incensed by what she beheld that she ran around and stuck bomb on every part of that lab. By the time she returned, she spotted a team of security men running toward Dr. Brown who had just revived Martin. Like a lioness robbed of her cubs, she ran toward them spraying bullets at them like rain showers. Having given them little chance to return fire at her, she left them on the floor with some dead and others having taken bullets in different parts of their bodies. Dr. Brown ran over to the litter of bodies Eve had dropped down, and put bullets in their heads. If Eve thought that her cousin Kate was the one to be afraid of in their team, at that moment she had a change of mind. Dr. Brown was far more dangerous. Even though some of the wounded security men pleaded to be spared, she blew their heads wide open without batting an eyelid.
Leading Martin Douglas, who was yet to look at Paula and his daughter, out of the lab, she asked Eve to stand behind Paula and her daughter to give them a cover in case they run into the security personnel who swarmed the facility. Outside the lab, Kate who had filled many parts of the lab with explosives had begun to worry about Eve and the others. She knew that the executives of the Elite must have been informed that the La Paz lab was under attack and must have dispatch a killer squad to go fix the situation. They could not afford to hang around till the squad arrives. They lacked the number and ammo to take on the kind of assault unit possibly on its way to the lab. To find out what was wrong with Eve and her team, Kate made her way back into the lab. Thank goodness she came; already a battle had broken out between Eve’s team and a security team at the level of the lab where they were. The security team had sighted Paula and her daughter being led out of the lab and opened fire at them. Eve, Dr. Brown and Martin Douglas would have been slaughtered if not for Paula’s unnatural hearing ability. The moment she heard the sound of their feet approaching from a distance, she groaned and began to heavy equipment in their direction. To stop the security team from shredding Paula with bullets, Eve, Dr. Brown and even Martin Douglas had to cover her by pinning the lab security team in a corner with bullets.

When Kate ran into the scene, she had to figure out a way to get Dr. Brown and the others out of their fix. Joining the gun battle would delay them; there were too many men to kill. She was left with no other choice, it was a bad idea though, but she had to do it. She triggered the bombs they had planted in the lab. The explosions which rocked the lab took the security team by surprise. The lab facility was shaken from it foundation and the levels below began to cave in. The fraction of minutes the explosions bought them was enough for Eve and the others to make it past the security team. The sight of Paula holding a monster creature like herself left Kate in shock. She had to ask, “Eve!!! What is this thing following you?!” “Move out of the way Kate, she is Martin’s wife!” The sight of Paula numbed Kate’s senses for a moment, had it not been for the explosions, the security team, some of whom had recovered, would have taken her out. She was standing in the line of their fire, the sound of bullets ricocheting off the equipment and the wall behind her, jolted her back to reality. She pulled off the safety pin on some grenades and threw them at the men who had fired at her. While the men burned in the ensuing explosions; Kate and the others made a dash out of the lab, with an inferno right behind them.
