Nigeria's leading fictional story blog - plastic smile on his face, Holding onto his pillows, wife’s subterranean activities, his own bed, A wave of anger, sadness and abject confusion.

Linus clutches his pillows, pressing them hard against his chest. A wave of anger, sadness and abject confusion stormed through him. Minutes earlier, he had walked in to see his parents cuddling passionately on the couch in the living room. They paused as he walked in. “Welcome son,” his father said excitedly. “Welcome my child, how are you?” His mother asked with glee in her eyes. “I am fine, thanks mom and dad,” he responded managing a feeble, plastic smile on his face as he entered his room. He has been living with this feeling all his life. When he was just five, he found his mother cheating on his father with the father’s best friend. His mother believes he was too young to remember, but Linus remembers it all with ‘vivid clarity’. Also, he is aware that his mother is seeing a wealthy man in town who does business with his father. The town is awash with gossip over his mother’s escapades. His father is the only one who seems to be unaware of his wife’s subterranean activities in other men’s beds…and sometimes in his own bed.

Linus wants to love and respect his mother, but a part of him hates her passionately. Since he turned twelve, he has found himself thinking terribly of his mother, especially when she acts like a loving wife towards his father. It is a dilemma; Linus feels sad, hating his mother. His youth pastor always preaches about loving other people even those who fall short of God’s standards. ‘How can I love her?’ He asks himself. ‘She is evil…I am disgusted by her!’ Then, he thinks, ‘Oh Lord, please forgive me for hating my mom...but she has just gone out to see one of her numerous men friends!’ His eyes brim with tears as he wonders what to do. Holding onto his pillows, he stares at the blank ceiling, wondering how to deal with the situation. A part of him wants to run far away from home, where he would not see his mother often!

Join the discussion. What should Linus do?????????????
