Ameyo: Hi, Shameem. I did not know it was you at the door. How are you doing?
Shameem: Not too bad. We are hanging in there.

Shameem has a sullen look on her face. The market in town got burnt, destroying her husband’s entire business. Things have been rough of late.

Ameyo: Sit down my friend. Let me get you something to drink.

Ameyo dashed to the kitchen and returned with a glass of cold apple juice.

Shameem: Thank you Ameyo. You have been very helpful of late. Thanks for your support.

Efua: Welcome aunty Shameem. I have not seen you in a while

Efua is Ameyo’s only daughter. She is seven years old, and she is quick to say what she thinks. She has just darted into the living room from her room.

Shameem: It has been a while. Each time I come around, you are in school or out with your daddy.

Efua: So have you bought me that toy yet?

Ameyo: This is not time for that Efua. Sit there and watch your show.

Efua: But mommy why? Aunty Shameem promised to buy me the toy!

Ameyo: Sit there and stop complaining. You will not understand. There are other things aunty Sham has to worry about now.

Shameem: It is okay. I will buy you the toy before long okay?

Efua: How soon?

Shameem: Very soon.

Efua: Like today?

Ameyo: Enough, Efua.

Efua turns on the TV with a frown on her face. Soon she is laughing as her cartoon come on.

Ameyo: We are really concerned about you Sham. We all pray for you and your husband every night. Everything will be alright. Please take it easy and don’t worry yourself to death.

Efua: But mommy, I don’t remember us praying for aunt Shameem. You never even mention her when we pray.

Ameyo: Shut up! Are you in my heart? I pray for her in my heart always.

Efua: Okay, because I know I have not heard you pray for her when we all pray together.
