 Uyo is a city in south-south Nigeria and is the capital of Akwa Ibom State, a major oil producing state. The town became the capital of Akwa Ibom State on September 23, 1987 following the creation of Akwa Ibom State from Cross River State.

The city can be accessed by road via the A342 highway, as well as Abak Road, Nwaniba Road, Itu Road, and Aka Road. The city has a beautiful airport which makes it easy for people in far flung parts of Nigeria and  the outside world to come in and enjoy the breathtaking beauty of the city.

Akwa Ibom state which is often referred to as Land of Promise has a population of about 3,920,208 p and a land area of 6,900 Sq km. With an ocean front which spans a distance of 129 kilometers from Ikot Abasi in the west to Oron in the east, Akwa Ibom presents a picture of captivating coastal, mangrove forest, beautiful sand beach resorts, and other interesting places one can visit.

Uyo is one of the fastest growing cities in Nigeria; it has witnessed significant infrastructural development in recent years. It has an amazing network of roads such as the IBB Way, Atiku Abubakar Avenue, Udo Udoma Avenue, Nsikak Eduok Avenue, and Edet Akpan Avenue, which is an eight-lane superhighway and at present the widest road in Uyo.

The city boasts of one of the best stadia in Nigeria and Africa, Godswill Apkabio International stadium, which has an architectural design styled after the Allianz Arena in Germany, the football home ground of Bayern Munich.

You can visit Akwa Ibom and discover the National Museum Oron, Uyo Library, Ibeano Beach and the Ikot Ekpene market where you can find local arts and crafts.

Ibom Tropicana Entertainment Center is the entertainment hub of the city of Uyo; it has a Cineplex. The Cineplex is the cinema aspect of the Ibom Tropicana Entertainment Centre. It was opened to the public on Saturday April 30, 2011, three years after the project was conceived. It has six cinema halls with 250 seating capacity for each of the hall.

Apart from the Cineplex, which is already completed and open to the public, the Tropicana Entertainment Centre when completed fully would come with the following facilities: a 250-room five star hotel, housed in a 16-storey edifice; an ultra-modern shopping mall; an international convention centre with a seating capacity of 5, 000 people; games parks and a monorail. The shopping mall has been fully completed and is functional.
