Continuous Action - Embrace with darkness – Modern day – Year: 2008

Mr. Silvanus and his wife kept up their high spirits as Martha and her siblings feasted on the sumptuous meal they were served. Joel, Obinna and Ada could not resist the warm manner in which their uncle received them. Separately they wished life would continue that way. It felt wonderful not to be judged by everyone and to find someone who saw them as humans deserving of care and love. However Martha reined in her emotions, she felt there might be a blast behind the silver lining. When they were done eating, their uncle happily invited them over to the living room for some tête-à-tête. “I know it must be hard for all of you adjusting to life without any of your parents around, especially with all that is happening right now. But you see from now on I won’t let any of you out of my sight. You are all special, and it is my intention to let everyone of you fulfill their potentials. I knew you were coming to Asarama, so I made ready to welcome you. Feel free here, this is your house.” “Excuse me uncle, you said you knew we were coming, how did you find out? We did not tell anyone,” Martha quizzed her uncle. By now all of them were interested in finding out the kind of man Mr. Silvanus was. “Yes I know you told no one; but you see, when Obinna suggested you come down to visit your mother’s grave so you can appeal to her for forgiveness, he wasn’t the one speaking, I was. I spoke through him to get you all down here.” All the four children of Iniye leapt to their feet and ran towards the exit door, but it was locked.

Seeing how scared they were, their uncle raised his two hands in the air, a sign that he meant no harm, and said, “I know a lot about the four of you than you do. I know about the man Ada killed in his sleep and I know Joel killed Comrade John earlier today. But even with all that knowledge I have about you, have I in any way acted judgmental toward any of you? I feel for you all, I understand your pain and confusion and I believe it is about time you found out who you really are, the things you are capable of and how to handle them. Believe me when I say it, I mean you no harm.” Martha and her siblings calmed a bit, but it wasn’t their uncle’s words that calmed them, rather it was the curiosity to find out why and how they could do the things they did. “How was I able to kill Comrade John when I was still miles away from Asarama?” Joel asked with the look of pain, guilt and confusion in his face. “I will tell you all everything you wish to know, but it won’t be here. I want you all to trust and follow me.” While the others hesitated, Ada stepped away from the door and meant to leave with Mr. Silvanus; her siblings had to tag along. As they followed Mr. Silvanus, they looked around for his wife, but there was no sign of her, she had disappeared since she left to clear the dining table. Whatever was happening she was in on it with her husband. They looked very terrified as their uncle led them to an underground apartment in his building. Ada seemed the least terrified; she stuck close to Mr. Silvanus as if she suspected he would bolt away and not explain their dilemma to them. When they got to the door of the underground apartment, it swung wide open of its own accord. Into the darkness which filled the large underground apartment, Mr. Silvanus stepped in. The four children stood by the door afraid to go in; they could not see their uncle in there, even though the door was wide open. Slowly the apartment began to illuminate, they could then see their uncle in the middle of what seemed like a large hall. There was no furniture in the hall, it was just empty.

Reassuringly, their uncle waved at them to come in. Immediately they did, the wide doors of the hall slammed shut of their own accord and startled Martha and her siblings. As they stood in the eerie, dimly lit hall, they realized that there was no conceivable source of the light which lit up the hall. The dim lights seemed to come out of the thin air. While they wondered at that, artistic impressions of huge serpents began to appear on the walls of the hall, stirring and moving like they were in every sense alive. In awe of the reptilian beasts on the walls, they huddled up together. The artistic drawings of serpents on the walls of the hall did not for a moment stop staring at them. They stared so hard that Obinna thought that perhaps they were trying to peer into their souls.  Still holding each other in fear, Martha asked, “Uncle what is this place? Why are we here?” “Don’t mind the drawings on the wall,” Mr. Silvanus replied her. “These things are no drawings uncle! They are alive!” Joel shouted. “They are drawings and even if they were not, they won’t harm you. Now listen to me…” He paused. With bathed breath they waited to hear what he had to say, “You are not like other humans.” He continued, “All of you are the children of serpent. The serpent kingdom through a covenant with your father brought you here to serve their purpose. The earlier you embrace who you are the better; if you refuse to serve the kingdom of serpent, I assure you; life will be one hell of place for you.”

“Uncle we came here to find solution and not to be sucked into your world of mysticism and voodoo. We will serve no serpent kingdom! Please let us out of this place,” Ada said sounding like she was not afraid. “No! You did not come here for solution; you were brought here to shown who you really are. When your father made a covenant with the serpent kingdom, he gave you all to the kingdom to be used as the kingdom sees fit. Your grandmother served the kingdom, your mother served the kingdom and your father made a covenant with the kingdom. Now I stand here as a servant of the kingdom appointed as your guardian, to help you come to terms with who you are and to teach you how to harness your enormous potentials.” When he mention the part of his being a servant of the kingdom, his skin began to transform to snake skin, his eyes flared with red flames, and his teeth seemed to stretch in size. It was simply bloodcurdling; the children of Iniye ran from him and pressed themselves against the door. “You shouldn’t run from me”, their uncle said, “If you knew who you are and what you are capable of, I should be the one running from you. You have powers beyond your imagination; you are a door way for serpent lords to enter the earth and do their biddings.” Raising his hands, he unleashed a wave of power and struck Martha and her siblings down to the floor. While they watched helplessly, Mr. Silvanus said to them, “When you killed your father, you made our bond with your family an everlasting bond. When your mother killed your grandmother, a faithful servant of the kingdom, she sealed your fate!”

“You lie! Evil man you lie! We did not kill our father and our mother certainly did not kill our grandmother. You seek to deceive us. Your intent is to manipulate us to do your evil designs, and we will never do what you want. We will never obey you!” “If you claim I am lying, why don’t you then see for yourself Martha?” Waving his hand, Mr. Silvanus threw a ball of light on the wall and a vision began to play on the wall. Right before their eyes, they saw their mother changing into an unusually big serpent; they heard her shouting to their father to go kill the four of them while they were still tender. While their father ran into the kitchen to fetch a knife, they saw the four of them morph into four monstrous serpents. When their father rushed into their room with a knife, they saw how they struck him down and feasted on his flesh. While they watched, the memory of the events of that night came rushing back to their minds with full clarity. They begged Mr. Silvanus to stop, but he wouldn’t, he had more to show them. In a quick flash he showed them how their mother, Iniye, killed their grandmother, Ebinyo. Turning like a conductor directing a mass choir, he waved his hands as he addressed them, “Even your father and mother were willing to kill you. No one in this life will accept you the way I do; embrace and serve your purpose and your misery will end. Now this is who you are.” Mr. Silvanus waved his hands yet again, this time toward them and an evil presence swooshed over them and each one of them began to transform into a humongous serpent. As they transformed, they begged him to stop, but he shook his head and said, “No! You have to see who you are! There is no running from it.”
