People are just about as happy as they make up their minds to be - Abraham Lincoln.
If we did all the things that we are capable of doing, we would literally astound ourselves - Thomas Edison.
Don't be afraid to fail because only through failure do you learn to succeed – Unknown.
On FOOD FOR THOUGHT this evening, we decided to bring you a number of incisive quotes; quotes that deal with life and the uncertainties that go with it. Through everyday life we all seek one thing, security; the assurance that tomorrow will be better. The comfort that our efforts today will count in the future. The hint that the ones we love do care deeply for us too, and that when the chips are down, they will have our back. Sadly we have little control over all these, but we can be sure of one thing. Asides God, there is another person that will never leave or forsake us…The person we see when you look at the mirror. We owe it to ourselves to be happy as Abraham Lincoln once said. Happiness is one of the most desired states or emotions in human history. We all want to be happy, but we often tie our happiness to something. When I achieve this or that; when this person or that person treats me like this or like that, then, I will be happy. To put a condition on our happiness ultimately sets us up for failure, because we have little control over external forces in life. Happiness is a choice; one that we have to firmly make every day despite what life throws our way. We are no super human, so we are bound to fall into an unhappy state, but to live in an unhappy rut is one of the most shortsighted things people do. Be sad when sad things happen, but with time, find the strength; as God for the strength and make the conscious effort to be happy.
I once lost one of the most important people in my life; a parent. That loss crushed me and my will to live. It drained me of happiness completely painted a dark and gloomy picture of life for me. It is like today, when you turn on the news, if they are not shooting people in one corner of the world, they are bombing them somewhere not too far from you. These things can easily leave us saddened for prolonged periods, and seriously depressed in some cases. Friends, snap out of the news syndrome. I had to tell myself the same thing after losing a dear parent. “It is my choice to be happy,” I told myself, and I say to you today, make the choice to be happy and endeavor to spread happiness to those who come in contact with you. It is a choice. Laugh loudly, talk with zest and life, when you shake people’s hands, shake them boldly and happily; when you hug, hug like you mean it; take a minute to be thankful for those God has placed in your life. As rough as the world may look today, it is still a beautiful world. Little children who care little about politics, crime and wars understand this more than adults. They forgive with ease, they forget almost immediately; letting go of the baggage that ultimately sadden we the adults. Happiness is like a perfume, you cannot spray it on someone else without picking up droplets on yourself. Be happy and spread joy.
Your current situation may seem like the end of the road. You cannot see how you could possibly get through it; somehow, it will come to pass. Do not let your current state deter you from being happy and most of all, from chasing your dreams in life. Do not lower your standards and aspirations because things are not working out now. Keep trying, alter your method, but don’t quit altogether. You may be a short distance away from the solution to your situation. In all you do, don’t let your situation cloud your vision. When things are tough, we tend hang our heads down. No!! Hold your head high, and walk with faith and courage; confidence and belief. Sometimes, you have to fake it until you actually make it. Believe that you will make it, act like you are on your way out of your problems, and visualize yourself on the road to meaningful success.
